Tiers, plot space and the multiplier
Progress is a tier ladder: each generator level pays more and costs more, and your plot has a fixed number of slots so upgrading beats expanding after a point. Most servers add a global multiplier from ranks or prestige, and where that multiplier comes from tells you how the server expects to make money.
Offline production and why it matters
Whether generators run while you are logged out is the single most important mechanic on a gens server. Servers that pay offline are a genuinely idle game; servers that do not reward whoever can leave the client open, which is a different and much worse thing. The listing or the server help page usually answers it.
How do I join a server from this list?
