Minecraft SRV record and address lookup

Enter a Minecraft server address and this resolves it the way a client does: the SRV record first, then the A record, so you can see exactly which machine and port players actually reach.

Why an SRV record matters

A Minecraft SRV record lets players type play.example.com and reach a server running on any port. Without one, anything other than port 25565 has to be typed as address:port, and most players will not do that.

How to create one

At your DNS provider, add an SRV record with service _minecraft, protocol _tcp, the name you want players to type, then the target hostname and port. Priority and weight can both be 0 and 5. It takes effect once the record propagates.

Bedrock is separate

Bedrock uses _minecraft._udp, and client support for it is patchy, so most Bedrock servers publish the port instead. We check the Bedrock record here too, so you can see whether yours exists.
